Unfortunately, there are many areas of law involving very vulnerable members of society in which Legal Aid Ontario does not provide coverage. Lex Dexter is a government-funded legal services provider incorporated under the Ontario Not-For-Profit Corporations Act with a solution. We are aiming to expand our services to other provinces and territories of Canada soon.
Provincial Offences Court
Services for defendants facing provincial offence charges before the Provincial Offences Court.
Small Claims Court
Services for individuals involved in consumer disputes with a merchant or service provider before the Small Claims Court.
Immigration & Citizenship
Services for foreign nationals seeking to stay in Canada on compassionate grounds, and for permanent residents wanting to apply for Canadian citizenship to fully participate in Canadian society.
Summary Conviction Offence Proceedings
Services for defendants facing summary charges where Legal Aid has refused a certificate because the charges are in their view not serious enough.
Human Rights Tribunal
Services for individuals experiencing discrimination contrary to the Human Rights Code.
Research & Support Services
Legal research & drafting support for lawyers representing vulnerable low-income clients in higher courts, when legal is either unavailable or does not provide sufficient coverage for a panel lawyer to complete the work on their own.

a not-for-profit basis with government funding and private donations.

What you’ll pay
- there are no fees for most cases where our client is an individual
- lawyers pay an hourly fee for our research and drafting services that is negotiated up front
- you have to cover or reimburse us for out-of-pocket expenses (disbursements)
